Black and Brown Jewels to Celebrate the Adoption of Our New Rescue Dog

Flourtown, Pa. Aug. 12, 2019. It’s been almost seven weeks since I returned home from Bosnia with our new rescue dog, Elsa. (Click to read Posts I, II, III, and IV.) While she’s been exhibiting a bit of separation anxiety when I leave the house, she is otherwise settling in nicely!

Elsa, already spoiled

Elsa has grown to love central air conditioning, ice water, twice-a-day long walks, massive comfy dog beds, and mimicking nearly everything our golden retriever does! Elsa has had her teeth cleaned by our vet—who was forced to extract three—and has been enrolled in dog-training classes. Elsa’s teeth were damaged in part from fighting off wolves that tried to prey on her in the countryside outside Sarajevo. We also suspect that her teeth were ground down by constant chewing on the chain that bound her to her former life of misery. That life is long gone now, thank God.

Elsa also went on a little diet and lost five pounds. Her Bosnian rescuer, Milena, overcompensated with 2.2 pounds of raw meat daily when she was malnourished, but that time is also long past. Now at 99 pounds, Elsa is at an ideal, healthy weight!

Now it’s time for Elsa to just enjoy her new posh life in the Philadelphia suburbs. Jeff and I are certainly enjoying our time with this big love of a dog who pours herself into my lap at every opportunity.

And still more good news: we raised nearly $2,000 for Milena’s rescue efforts! Seeing that number brings me so much joy. Thank you to all who donated! Still want to donate? Please do so at this link.

Thank you for bearing with me on a series of dog-focused posts!! I’ll now resume jewelry-only coverage.
