Naxos, Greece. June 21, 2019. Deep, royal blue—the color of lapis lazuli—is synonymous with Greece. You see it in the Aegean Sea, in the white- and blue-painted churches and houses that dot the landscape of the Greek Islands, in the country’s flag, and in evil eye accents and décor and colorful enameled ceramics in gift shops. Given the beauty of the color and its identifiability with Greece, we’re casting a spotlight on the gem that’s naturally that color of blue. Behold, five lapis jewels to celebrate the color that belongs to Greece, my vacation spot this week.
