Rio Tinto Unveils Virtual Preview of Annual Argyle Pink, Red, Violet, and Blue Diamonds

Hero stones in the 2020 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender

Melbourne, Australia. Sept. 3, 2020. Miner Rio Tinto today announced a virtual preview, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, of rare pink, red, violet, and blue diamonds from its Argyle diamond mine. Other viewings will occur later in the year at the mine before the stones travel to Singapore and Antwerp. Bids will close on December 2, 2020.

This year’s diamonds represent one of the last offerings that will ever be made to an exclusive group of collectors and luxury jewelry houses given that the legendary mine will close at the end of 2020 after nearly four decades of production. Because of the significance of this year’s offerings, the 2020 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender is also being referred to as One Lifetime, One Encounter.

“We have seen, and continue to see, strong demand for these highly coveted diamonds, which, together with extremely limited global supply, supports the significant value appreciation for Argyle pink diamonds,” Arnaud Soirat, Rio Tinto chief executive of copper and diamonds, told the media.

The 2020 Argyle Pink Diamond Tender represents a collection of the rarest diamonds from a year’s production from the mine in the remote east Kimberley region of Western Australia. The 2020 Argyle Pink Diamond Tender collection has six hero stones selected for their unique beauty and named to ensure there is a permanent record of their contribution to the history of the world’s most significant diamonds. This year’s historic offerings comprise a total of 62 diamonds weighing 57.23 carats.

Hero stones are as follows:
