New York City. Sept. 18, 2020. Both Kay Jewelers and the Cultured Pearl Association of America (CPAA)—the latter for which this author works part time—have made beautiful images available to fans for use as backgrounds on video calls.
Since the start of the worldwide pandemic, many have taken to Zoom video conferencing as a way to connect. One way to make the experience more fun is to upload a background image to make it look as though you are taking the call from an exotic location.
Enter Kay Jewelers, a chain-store division of Signet, which has unveiled nine romantic backdrops geared toward couples who want to proceed with a virtual wedding instead of waiting (until?) to host a live one once the pandemic ends. Among the images: a lush green garden path, cherry blossoms, and a rustic barn setting.

“These virtual escapes can help couples celebrate weddings and engagements while respecting COVID-19 social distancing guidelines and shelter-in-place mandates,” a brand spokesperson says. “They were created to help transport couples around the globe and to help make up for canceled travel plans.”
Meanwhile, CPAA enlisted the help of its pearl-producing friends Jewelmer, Atlas, and J. Hunter Pearls Fiji to offer pearl-theme backgrounds for use on video calls. Stunning imagery from pearl farms in Fiji, the Philippines, and Indonesia as well as beautiful loose pearl shots by Ted Morrison for the CPAA, can be downloaded here. The shots aim to boost moods and add some levity to the seriousness of the global situation.
